Happy New Year

Photo of 4 metallic watercolor paintings on black paper.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. We had a nice time here. It was the first time in years that we saw Ron’s parents for Christmas. So, that was especially nice, and while his mom appreciated being up north for the holidays, his dad was definitely missing the Florida weather.

Our Christmas was precipitation free, but we did get a storm here a couple of days later. The forecast was for something in the neighborhood of 2 to 6 inches of snow. I had the skis waxed up and ready to go, but alas what fell from the sky was just a small amount of snow and a whole lot of ice. So much ice.

Saturday morning I was out trying to clear the walkways with very little success. That ice was no match for our flimsy shovel. I wasn’t too concerned because the weather app on the phone told me it would be 58 degrees on Monday. So I figured we just had to wait a couple of days, and this mess would all melt, but it turns out the snow totals weren’t the only thing my phone app got wrong.

Meanwhile, though there was nowhere near enough snow to ski, I decided to play indoors. One of Ron’s gifts to me was some black mixed media paper, so I had some fun trying it out with some metallic watercolor paints I have.

Temperatures on Monday got nowhere near that predicted 58 degrees, but it was warm enough to rain and warm enough for me to do battle with the slushy icy mixture on our driveways and walks with our flimsy shovel. I wouldn’t say that I was victorious, exactly, but things are slightly improved from how they were over the weekend.

So, as we slip slide into 2026, I wish you all a happy and healthy new year!
