Survived Another Week, So I’m Calling It a Win

For the better part of a week a nasty sinus infection has been kicking my butt. The good news is I now have some sweet antibiotics coursing through my system and hope to be feeling back to normal in the next few days. (Sidenote: telemedicine is pretty amazing. What would have involved a miserable drive to a doctor’s office, a miserable wait in the waiting room, all so I could tell a doctor I have a sinus infection that doesn’t seem to be getting better only for him or her to say “Yeah, I think we’ll try a week of amoxicillin, and see if that doesn’t clear things up” can now all be handled in a five minute video chat.)

So, I’ve spent much of this week just kind of chilling, but I did manage to get some work done on a Christmas gift that involves a homemade touch, and we managed to get up our little Christmas tree and our other holiday decorations. Now the house is looking all nice and festive, and I’m going to chalk this week up as a win.

I’m writing this on Monday because as it happens tomorrow is my birthday, and I am hitting the half century mark. I remember years ago when I was in college I had a job working at an outlet store near our house, and one of my coworkers was a little bit huffy about the fact that when she turned fifty some of the younger workers there pointed out that she was now half a century old. I’ll admit that at the time, that seemed impossibly old to me. Hey, it still seems old, and it also seems like just yesterday I was 19 and ringing up everyone’s bargain purchases. Time really does fly. But I’m not going to get huffy about anyone pointing out I’m half a century old, and a few weeks ago when a cashier at Ross asked me if I qualified for the senior discount (it starts at 55, FYI) I actually did my best to smile and be polite, even if I was screaming a little inside. Mainly I just hope that these antibiotics give my sinus infection the old one, two punch so that I can feel a little more celebratory in time for my 50th.

Anyway, I’ve already gotten some happy birthday wishes from the telemedicine doctor and the woman standing behind me in line at the pharmacy. So, I am living the dream!

Hoping that you survived another week as well, and that you’re doing better than I am!
