On Sunday we got our first real snow of the season. We had a few very small storms before, that ultimately amounted to little more than a dusting, the sort of things that make the yard look like one big crumb cake with powdered sugar sprinkled on top. Sunday, however, the snow started falling late morning and went all through the day.
Monday morning it looked like a winter wonderland out there. All told, we probably wound up with around four inches of snow, which is hardly a blizzard, but enough that I donned my winter gear and headed out to shovel walks and the stuff by the garages that the plow guy left behind. Walks and garages plural because this year we also need to tend to the place next door.
It was a nice, light fluffy snow, which wasn’t much of a problem to shovel. It also is the perfect snow for doing a little backyard skiing. So after the chores were complete I wrestled the skis out of the back corner of the garage and headed off to play in the snow.

For the same reason that I had to shovel out two garages and clear off two walks, my backyard cross country ski track doubled in size this year. I made a few loops of the expanded track until my legs felt like Jell-o and my face stung from the cold.
I thought about heading back out there on Tuesday morning, but according to my phone it was 3 degrees outside, and I decided to do my exercising from the comfort of our heated basement. As I write this on Tuesday afternoon, I don’t know what the weather will be like tomorrow morning. Perhaps I will brave the elements and make another few loops around the yards.
I hope that winter is treating you well and that you are staying warm!

-7 here yesterday, warmed all the way up to -4 this morning. We got about the same amount of snow though. One advantage sub-zero temps has over snow is that it shovels a lot easier.
Brrrrr! Stay warm!
I’m not a big fan of winter, so even here in not so sunny Florida it’s been pretty miserable. Enjoy your snow days and stay safe and warm!
thanks, Mom! I’ve seen some wild pics from the rare snow in northern Florida and New Orleans. Wild!
I have yet to figure out why the winters in the south are colder than winters in the north. All along the southern states there’s record snow , down in the low teens and single digits. Yet my sister who lives in Alaska is sitting at a balmy 34 degrees. Which is warmer than here in Texas !!
It’s definitely a strange one. I saw that New Orleans has gotten more snow than some NJ towns this winter.
