A Quick Hello

I’m going to keep things short and sweet this week. As I write this, we’re looking forward to the arrival of my parents this afternoon. Mom and Dad are up from Florida for a visit, and are little by little making it all the way up the East Coast to eventually wind up in Maine to visit family there. They’ve apparently brought the heat wave with them. Hopefully our ailing AC unit is on its best behavior!

Mom and Dad’s visit isn’t the only get-together this week. Saturday was a semi-annual get together with four girls that my sister and I grew up with. Our three fathers went to high school together then ended up having daughters around the same time, and so the six of us girls have known each other our whole lives. As kids we enjoyed trips to the Poconos, or excursions to go apple picking, backyard barbecues and one somewhat rainy weeklong vacation down in Duck, North Carolina.

Now, we try to get together for lunch a couple of times per year. My sister, alas, lives a little too far away to join us for these gatherings, but the rest of us live close enough to be able to regularly meet up, when our schedules align. We did have one extra girl at this lunch since one of my friends recently had a baby girl and we all got to meet the adorable and super well-behaved little lass.

Anyway, I hope you too are making some happy new memories this summer and doing your best to stay cool!
